Vlad wins again in 100km trail race
Vlad Ixel took on the Translantau Hong Kong 100k ultra. The event was mostly based on trails, and included plenty of steep hills, including the Lantau peak at 934 metres. Lantau is the largest island in Hong Kong.
“Translantau 100k was hard” said Vlad. “Starting at midnight and running through the night mist and fog was hard. Climbing 6000m was hard, descending it on the slippery trails was hard too. There’s nothing about Translantau that isn’t hard. But that’s what makes it worth it. There’s where the hard training sessions pay off.”
Vlad finished in 13 hours, 25 minutes and 11 seconds, 51 minutes ahead of the second placed runner. Only two other runners finished within 90 minutes of Vlad. Over 100 starters in the men’s race failed to complete the race, and of the 320 finishers over 90% finished outside 18 hours.
The checkpoints included water and plenty of vegan food including dry fruit, oranges, bananas, peanut butter.
This is Vlad’s 5th win at the 100km distances. Next he will be working as an organiser on the Great Relay in Singapore and his own running clinics.
