Superheavyweight powerlifter Alison Crowdus has quickly become a leading lifter in the US, qualifying for the XPC finals at the Arnold Sports Festival. Her impressive equipped total is one she fully expects to improve on and she is also starting to compete in strongman, winning her first competition.
Bill McCarthy is a international powerlifting competitor and strength coach who has finished in the top five at the US Nationals five times,and was the 2013 Arnold Festival champion. He's won the US Open three times. Weighing in at 110kg, his personal bests for raw powerlifting are 177kg bench press, 275kg squat and 286kg deadlift. He has competed at the Arnold Sports Festival three times and runs a powerlifting team. He's also broken a 20 year old State record for equipped bench set by a multiple world champion.
Iceland is known as a nation where strength sports are popular and standards are high. Vegan viking Hulda has competed successfully in both raw and equipped competition. She has broken all the Icelandic records in ther class related to equipped lifting, rebreaking them repeatedly. She has been crowned Icelandic champion several times and competed in European competition.
Vegetarian since birth, powerlifter Nigel Morton has made an impact nationally as he has shifted enormous totals. The big Canadian has already had success with coaching, although he has plans to take his own total to even bigger numbers. Already squatting 300 kg, Nigel turned vegan in 2010 aged 21 and this period has seen him gain size and strength thanks to a dedicated training ethic and good diet.
Julia has five national powerlifting records, including all of those available at one weight. She has also successfully competed at the World Championships and is entering international competition. She works full time as a fitness instructor and has been vegan since 2013, making the change initially for fitness reasons and later enthusiastically embracing the ethics.
