Tammy Albanese

Tammy is a veteran powerlifter who discovered the sport in middle age and went on to achieve world‑record success.

  • Six world records
  • 20 Virginia State records
  • 67.5 kg squat in the 48kg M3 category

Before stepping onto the powerlifting platform, she competed in bodybuilding and earned her Pro Card with the OCB. She later transitioned to the Powerlifting Masters divisions in the 48 kg class, where her strength quickly made an impact.

In 2025, at the upper end of the 55–59 age group, Tammy posted lifts of 67.5 kg in the squat, 42.5 kg in the bench press, and 100 kg in the deadlift. Those numbers secured three World Records — in the bench, deadlift and total.

Less than five months later, she entered the next age category and raised her bench, deadlift, and total once again, setting the same trio of records for her new age group. Over her career she has accumulated 20 Virginia state records and numerous US National records.

“My favourite achievements are definitely setting the USPA World Records for the 55-59 age group and then setting them for the 60-64 age group.”

Vegan Power

Tammy has been fully vegan since June 2020, inspired by a chance encounter with a Forks Over Knives magazine.

“I bought the magazine, read it cover to cover that day. I spent the next six weeks researching plant based eating and then decided to go cold turkey.”

Her training is fuelled by “tofu, beans, homemade seitan lunchmeat, fruits & veggies,” and her programme is built around the three competition lifts.

“I also do accessory exercises as I love to maintain my muscularity, these are more traditional weight lifting exercises such as lateral raises, dumbbell & barbell curls, rows, lat pull-downs, etc. I also like to run, so I include 3 sessions of a fast walk/run interval work out and some hill walking on the treadmill.”

Tammy is coached by Dani Taylor of Vegan Proteins, giving her a strong support system for both training and nutrition. She has no plans to slow down.

“My goals are to continue getting stronger and breaking my records. I also strive to be considered an Elite powerlifter one day!

“I always want to set a good example for my kids. That includes staying fit and strong even at 60 years old. That also includes being compassionate about animal welfare and my impact on our environment.”
