Alison Huet is an accomplished powerlifter who has been multiple French champion and has competed successfully internationally.

  • Five-time national champion
  • Vice Champion at the World Championships
  • Win at the Western European Championships

She has been French national champion on five occasions and has taken first at the World University Powerlifting Cup. Alison has also taken a win at the Western European Powerlifting Championships.  She’s reached the podium at the World Bench Press Championship (twice) and European Open.

Lifting raw in the 57 kg category she’s recorded a competition total of 433 kg and has a squat personal best of 152 kg.

“My greatest achievements in competition are being a vice-world champion in 2022, and five- time national champion since 2021” Alison says. “These are my favourites but I am very grateful of course for all the medals I was able to win in international competitions.”

Vegan

“My thoughts about veganism are that is not as complicated and as frustrating as people think.”

All of these achievements were as a vegan, as Alison stopped eating animal products in 2017.  She maintains this while she’s travelling and in all other circumstances.

The change was motivated out of concern for animals.

“I could not stand anymore to eat the living beings that I love so much and that are raised, killed and slaughtered the way they are just for us to eat, while we can have a different way to eat. Because people cannot have a reasonable consumption of meat, animals are treated and raised inhumanely.”

She has no trouble fuelling her training programme which includes 4-5 gym sessions per week, each lasting 2-3 hours.

“I eat a lot of soy, pea, legumes or gluten for protein sources” Alison says “which are very important in my diet. And of course a lot of fruits, vegetables, I love cooking.”

A record like Alison’s speaks for herself, and even now some of the people training at Alison’s gym are initially surprised.

“Everyone is very curious about it, and at first they think that’s impossible to be vegan and lift weights as I do. Or they think it is impossible to have a very muscular shape with no meat in my diet, but here I am !

“So people don’t see it as a big issue, but they are mainly very curious about it because I don’t try to convince them or I am not blaming them to not be vegan, I am just presenting my way of dieting.”

There’s more to come from Alison, and she feels she can get even stronger.

“My biggest goal is to be world champion, and keep being national champion, keep pushing and be a better version of myself.”

“My thoughts about veganism are that is not as complicated and as frustrating as people think. Everyone supposes that you can only eat seeds and vegetables, that you will have deficiencies, … while you can eat A LOT of different food, and have all the micronutrients your body needs.

“It’s just a matter of the energy and the time you are willing to put on searching information, and on having a more reasonable consumption of animal products, even if you are not turning completely vegan.”
