Sasho Andreev

strong vegan

This powerful Bulgarian has taken national world titles as he has competed against the word's best.

  • 26 world titles
  • Multiple national titles
  • 22 European titles
  • Over 100 overall wins

Sasho Andreev is an amazingly powerful athlete who has taken hundreds of titles including those at National, European and World level.

The Bulgarian competes in armwrestling in the senior men’s 90kg category.  By 2024 he had taken 11 national titles and in the same year he retained his European title (more here).  He also retained his world title after competing in Canada against the world’s best (more here).

He looks the epitome of an armwrestler – stocky with broad shoulders, bulging biceps and thick forearms.  Armwrestling is competed worldwide and Eastern Europe has some of the world’s elite.

Sasho’s success continued in 2025 and he won the European Championships in both Left and Right hand (more here).  Soon after he won the World Championships (both hands) taking his World Championship Gold count to 26 (more here).

The wins are part of an incredible run that has placed him at the top of the pack internationally.  The 2024 title was his eleventh world title too.

For part of this, Sasho has been vegan.

In early 2019 he started a vegetarian diet, and around September of that year he cut out dairy products too.  This means he stopped using dry milk, cream and egg for his soup.  It came out an experiment to see how he performed without meat for one month.

Now peas, beans and lentils are a large part of his diet.  He supplement with a multivitamin and like most strength athletes he takes a protein supplement – which is vegan too.

“I try to eat one of the three almost every day” he says.  On a typical day he eats “lentils, beans, peas, rice, potatoes, vegetable soup or salad, olives, nuts, fruits” as part of a mainly wholefood diet, often adding a vegan bar or chocolate.  Bread and avocado are often in his kitchen too.

Approaching a competition he often changes a few things.  “Maybe 1-2 months before competition I take vegan protein, vegan multi vitamin and some herbs in pills or tea” he says.

As in many sports, steroid use may confer an advantage.  “I have never tried steroid or anabolic ingredients” Sasho says.

Much of his competition has been with the World Armwrestling Federation, who operate an anti doping policy and conduct testing.  They’ve caught and banned armwrestlers for steroid use.

Sasho enthusiasm, strength and dedication is likely to bring him more fantastic results and we look forward to hearing more from the vegan powerhouse.
