British record broken by vegan lifter
Sophia Ellis has taken more honours with a new all-time British record at the European Bench Press Championships.
The 26 year old vegan benched 120kg, breaking her own record as she took a bronze medal. Beating her own record means she has the top two British lifts.
Hitting 120 kg has been a long term goal.
“It’s been a long time coming, but I am just so so happy I’ve managed to execute it at an international competition. And maybe a little more left in the tank?… I had so much fun and it was great to share the platform with team GB and my strong international friends.”
The lift is an incredible achievement for a 76kg lifter and adds to her honours. Sophia also holds the European Deadlift record and is a three-time British and Commonwealth Champion.
