Andreas takes another national title
Just a few weeks ago we added Andreas Vojta to our website and noted that the speedy vegan had an incredible haul of national titles. He’s just finished competing at the Austrian National Championships where he had the opportunity to add to them.
“I was able to defend my 5000m national title and get silver on the 1500m” Andreas told us. “It was national title #33 at senior level for me, so I am happy I can show this consistency for a decade now already.”
Eating vegan at the Championships wasn’t a problem.
“For the meals I had the hotel breakfast where you can always find some oats with plant milk, bread, jam, fruits and so on. Besides that I also had one pizza and on the second day some curry-style dish.
“For a runner it´s just important to have a meal rich in carbohydrates which is not too hard to digest. And past, pizza, rice,… you can really find everywhere. So there is also no reason for not eating plant-based during competitions while showing great performances!”
Vegan runner
Andreas is vegan for “ethical and environmental reasons.”
“And of course vegan means vegan” he says. “There are no exceptions, even though the food options can be really shitty sometimes at the athlete accommodations during events. I didn’t really think of the health aspects before my transition but now I feel and see that my food choices in general are much healthier even though I still have a sweet tooth.”
Well done Andreas! He now has less than two weeks until he competes at the European Championships.
