Vegan runner Vlad adds wheels and water
In a typically busy year for Vlad Ixel, we missed bringing you news in May of his performance at Ultra Trail Australia – an event attracting the top runners of the country.
Vlad revels in difficult runs and with extreme height claims and difficult terrain there are few who can stay close to his pace.
“The race it self-was amazing and well-organized event – it’s the biggest trail running race in Australia so it’s always been my goal to race it” said Vlad recently. Although he didn’t take a place on podium. “The course was a little too runnable and after leading for the first 15k I just didn't have the leg speed to stay with the leaders” he said on finishing fourth.
Then he started training triathlons.
“I did 3 triathlons in 3 weeks in Germany and really enjoyed it – I might try and few more triathlons next year and I really enjoy the training on the bike – the swimming might take a bit of time to develop but it's a new skill that I'm enjoying to learn more about.”
Amazingly Vlad has incorporated 2-3 hours of training in running and cycling without taking the time and energy from his running training and is still doing similar routines on two feet.
With such a dedication to his training maybe we can expect to see Vlad moving from his impact on trail running to being recognised in triathlon too. We’ll be keeping you up to date.
