Vegan runner takes national title #52

The Austrian track and endurance athlete took his latest title just after a great run in the Vienna Marathon.

Andreas Vojta is versatile and prolific.  He’s represented his country at the Olympics over 800 metres and has excelled over the long distances.  Less than two weeks before an incredible 52nd national title, he was the second European home in the Vienna Marathon. A year ago he ran the never ending World Run, outlasting all other runners and recording the 2nd longest distance ever – 68.5 km.

“Basically I tried to recover as good as possible after the marathon – one week without training and then the second week starting to easily get into it again” Andreas tells us. “Not only physically but also from a mental perspective! The race now was 12 days after the marathon and fit perfectly to have some extra motivation to get into fast running and the usual rhythm again.”

The 10,000 title continues to take his haul of national accolades to crazy levels and demonstrates the quality and adaptability of this athlete.

The latest win comes around eight years after Andreas went vegan for “ethical and environmental reasons”.  He says he thought little about the health aspect, but feels the change did improve the quality of his diet.

“I would say my main formula is: whole grains, legumes, veggies and nuts and seeds – and all kinds of fruits for a snack.”

The quick turnaround between races is something he’s not afraid to repeat – the Wings for Life World Run.  Thousands will run against a pacer than speeds up until they can no longer maintain the race – and Andreas will be turning his attention to another inspiring performance.

“For me it’s feels always a bit easier to perform with a bib on compared to just doing a training on my own, that’s why I like to have a race from time to time as it always also brings a nice training input.”
