Vegan lifter Dominates English Bench Press Championships with New Personal Best
She set a personal best as she retained her title – and there was more good news.

Catherine Phipps put in more fantastic lifts at the English Bench Press Championships to take top spot again.
The South-coast lifter competed in the 69kg category and benched 100 kg for the first time. She made it look easy with a comfortable lift, leaving others to wonder whether she’ll lift even more in future.
We may find out later this year, as the win earned her an invitation to compete at the IPF Commonwealth Powerlifting Championships in Canada.
Cat has been vegetarian for her whole life, and turned vegan in 2021 after a period where her diet was mostly plant-based.
“My motive to go vegan was always for the animals. While I’d always classed myself as an animal lover and compassionate about animal rights, I realised – after watching a documentary on the dairy industry – that this was hypocritical if I wasn’t completely vegan.”
