Alison Huet excelled again – the 63 kg started big with a massive 162.5 kg squat. She benched 112.5 kg, then finished with a deadlift of 180 kg – 455 kg – close to triple bodyweight.

As well as winning her category, her score of 101.98 GL points, a score which enables comparison across different weight classes, gave her overall victory.

Alison was also pleased to record her highest ever competition total of – a personal record by 12.5 kg.

“I came here to win, I fought for every single lift, and I’m leaving with far more than I could have ever hoped for” Alison says.

Alison was already a five-time national champion, Vice Champion at the World Championships and she won the Western European Championships.

All were achieved after she went vegan in 2017.

Vegan for the animals

The change was motivated out of concern for animals.

“I could not stand anymore to eat the living beings that I love so much and that are raised, killed and slaughtered the way they are just for us to eat, while we can have a different way to eat. Because people cannot have a reasonable consumption of meat, animals are treated and raised inhumanely.”

“I eat a lot of soy, pea, legumes or gluten for protein sources” Alison says “which are very important in my diet. And of course a lot of fruits, vegetables, I love cooking.”
