Torre Washington Makes History as First Known Natural Vegan to Compete at Olympia
The 52 year old has added another landmark to his extraordinary career, stepping onto the Olympia stage as the first known natural vegan bodybuilder to compete at the world's most prestigious event.

Torre earned his place in Men’s Physique after a dominant performance at the Ben Weider Pro Am late last year, where he won both the 40+ and Open categories — and stood as the only known vegan athlete in the line‑up. His Olympia appearance showcased the trademark physique fans know him for: dense muscle, sharp definition, and unmistakable stage presence.
Throughout the weekend, Torre was supported by the Vegan Strong Team and his sponsors at Vedge Nutrition, reflecting the growing visibility of plant‑powered athletes at elite levels of physique sport.
A Veteran Competitor With Global Influence
Torre began competing in 2009 and has since collected numerous titles, including earning his IFBB Pro Card. Beyond competition, he has become a highly sought‑after coach, working with well‑known clients across bodybuilding, fitness, and entertainment.
He’s been vegan Since 1998. Torre adopted a vegan lifestyle, inspired by his Rastafarian roots and a desire to live in closer alignment with nature.
“Some Rastas still consume fish and even chicken. I wanted no part of that and as such a new vegan arose not knowing that there was a term for this lifestyle back in 1998.”
His long‑term commitment to plant‑based living has become central to his identity as an athlete and mentor, and his Olympia appearance marks a powerful moment for vegan representation in strength sports.
A Milestone for Veganism in Bodybuilding
Torre’s debut at Olympia reinforces what many vegan athletes have already demonstrated: meat is not a prerequisite for elite performance. His achievement stands as another clear example of how plant‑based nutrition can support — and even enhance — success at the highest levels of sport.
