Lisa takes a personal best at the World Championships
Fast-moving vegan Lisa Gawthorne has returned to the Duathlon World Championships – and was faster than ever!
“I felt super strong on the bike and smashed my 5K PB by 16 seconds!” Lisa told Great Vegan Athletes. She ran it in 18.20, although it was slightly more than 5k.
The three-stage run-bike-run event then saw her on two wheels.
“The bike was a little challenging as more often than not I was out on my own but just powered on. I worked with people on the course in packs whenever I had the chance even if for only a short while.”
There was no time to rest afterwards.
“The final run was amazing, I overtook so many athletes running at 6:30 pace off the bike.”
The run saw her take tenth in a high quality age group, leaving her delighted.
It’s not the first time Lisa’s shown her ability to finish strongly, which we suspect might be helped by her diet. She was able to eat well in the region (Aviles in Spain).
“I’ve been eating some food I brought” she says. “I’ve been mixing it with visits to vegan restaurant Thunder Greens.”
Lisa has represented her country in cross country and multisports events for several years and has been vegan for over 20 years. She is a director of a company that supplies vegan confectionaries.
