Sahy Lalime returned to the Belgian nationals hoping to continue her successes. In 2018, 2019 and 2020 she was the overall female winner.
This year she had some setbacks with a minor bike accident. “My back and hips were tight as a result” she says.
Sahy also had unusual struggle with weight. She made the 63 kg category after starting the week at 66 kg and waking up at 64.1 kg on the day.
Sahy set her opening weights at fairly cautious weights. She finished with a 152.5 kg squat, an 80 kg bench and a 180 kg deadlift. The total of 412.5 kg was enough to win her category.
This also left her as the overall women’s winner, for the third time. She’s already looking ahead.
“I’m really looking forward to having a (hopefully) injury-free, productive 6 months of training” Sahy says. “That’s before Worlds next year in South Africa – fingers crossed. Excited to see what I’ll do in 2022!”
Sahy has been vegetarian since 2003 and vegan since 2015. She says: “My motivation to go vegetarian was based purely on not wanting to kill animals.”
She works as a personal trainer, her business is called Kale and Barbell.
