Vlad runs 54km overnight in Tel Aviv
Ultradistance runner Vlad Ixel took on the Yam 2 Yam 54km trail race in Tel Aviv expecting an interesting race.
The race starts along the coast path at night, before going onto trails and continuing inland, finishing at Jerusalem. The total distance of 33.7 miles is a marathon plus about 28%.
Vlad started strongly and soon had a clear lead, which turned into a few kilometres by the halfway stage. At this point he slowed down to enjoy the race. “There is something very magicalabout running a lone on thetrailsinpitchdarkness,” he told us, “something very satisfying.”
He crossed two rivers and faced a long uphill section before the closing stages, and finished strongly with his brother waiting at the finish line. The finishing time was 4 hours 14, winning comfortably.
