World record lift by vegan survivor
Pat Reeves continues to beat her challenges as she sets another world record.
Still lifting and still at the cutting edge of the sport, Pat has overcome everything in her way to get to where she is.
She was diagnosed ‘terminally’ ill in the 1970s and went on a wholefood vegan diet which later became her lifestyle. Pat recovered full health and amazed everyone with her powerlifting progress.
She’s since broken so many powerlifting records at British, European and World level that we’ve lost count.
Devastation on the roads
In 2018 she was involved in a horrific car crash which killed her friend. Pat was cut free and airlifted to hospital where she was in a coma for 12 days.
Incredibly she’s was soon back powerlifting and has just broken her own world deadlift record.
Now aged 77 the 48 kg grandmother recently competed at the World Full Power Congress. She can’t bench or squat although she deadlifted 62.5 kg to add a kilo to the record.
Her existing records for the three-lift total (full power) still stand.
“I’m still able to train the bench discipline, but cannot increase my previous record, hence, all things being extant, l am happy to continue – for as long as possible – with my deadlift specialism” she says.
“Maybe even in Amsterdam, June 2024 at the World Singles, depending if I’m allowed to fly!”
Pat never fails to run out of people to inspire and spent some time with another veteran lifter (pictured, standing) who was at her first international event.
