Vegan Tom is Britain’s Strongest Man!
His win at the Official Strongman British Championships gives him the coveted title.

Southampton’s Tom Butts continues an incredible season with a win which gives him the title of Britain’s Strongest Man in the 90 kg category.
Events were heavy. They included a 280 kg Axle Bar deadlift which he won with 4 reps, and 140kg bag carry which he also won with 110 metres. 130 kg atlas stone to shoulder was another win with 2 reps in 22 seconds, showing Tom can perform statically as well as moving events.
Unlike the recent UK & Ireland Natural Strongman win, this event does not test for steroids and Tom was undoubtedly competing against steroid users. Tom’s been tested at other competitions and has always passed.
Official Strongman is the federation affiliated to the best-known competitions Giant Live and World’s Strongest Man, and if the most common route for Open weight category winner to win invitations to those competition. This means that Tom can claim the title of Britain’s Strongest Man for his category.
As a vegan and natural strongman, Tom has turned common beliefs on their heads, although his success and beliefs are key to what he does.
“I saw humans as just another animal species. I think me going from not at all veggie to fully vegan and then still getting stronger, is a great thing to appeal to men especially who are obsessed with meat and think it’s essential to optimise their progression in the gym.”
Congratulations to Tom on this monumental win.
