Third in Adelaide for Oakes
The Adelaide Marathon was the next part of Fiona Oakes’ attempt to complete her world marathons record attempt

Preparation wasn’t ideal as she had made the trip from UK just 30 hours before so was jetlagged, and the hotel did had two noisy wedding receptions disrupting sleep.
She started off with her knee problem recurring and some sickness on the two lap course which included half marathon competitors.
At halfway she realised she was around fourth and at that stage thought a podium position was possible. She pushed on and managed to finish strongly. He final time of 3:08:43 put her in third place in the women’s race, 4:32 behind the leader and first in her age category.
It was a tough race for Fiona but another stage of the record attempt complete and another excellent time.
