Nitro Athletics offers new challenges for Morgan
Rising Athletics star Morgan Mitchell broadened her experience with an appearance for Team Australia in the six – team international Nitro Athletics meeting.
400 metre Olympian Morgan, who has been vegan since 2014, entered the event which offered a new twist on many existing events. The meeting saw teams representing Australia, China, Japan, England, New Zealand and a team assembled by sprinter Usain Bolt. The teams won points for placings in events with bonus points also available.
On the first day she joined team mate Luke Mitchell to compete in the 2 x 300 metre relay were they took a win. Later that day she also helped Australia to a win in the Mixed Distance Medley. The second day saw her run with Luke Mitchell again for the 2 x 300m, recording another win in an even faster time of 70.63. She also returned to her usual distance when she ran the anchor leg in the mixed 4 x 400 metres where the team finished second to a very strong English team.
On the third day she ran in the mixed 4 x 100 metre, a large change for a 400 metre runner. She also took part in the mixed 2 x 300 metre relay in which she and team make Luke Stevens edged a win. The two were joined by two team mates in the 2000 sprint medley where she also picked up a win.
Morgan’s Australian team finished a close second to Bolt’s All Stars on the final points.
