National record falls to vegan runner
Some sports records stand for years due to their standard, Izzi had her eye on the 25 year old Australian Half Marathon record.

Izzi Batt-Doyle looked to break this in the Marugame half marathon. The record was held by Izzi’s inspiration Kerryn McCann.
She ran a disciplined race at a fantastic pace and came in 30 seconds under in 1:07:17. 11 of the 21 km splits were between 3:08 and 3:10.
“Believed in myself today and made the most of the opportunity to compete against a great field and run fast” the 29 year old said afterwards.
Vegan
Izzi has been vegan since late 2014, following attempts to do so where she was put off by old misunderstandings in the running community. The last attempt was successful.
“At that point I didn’t care if it affected my running negatively, I knew it was what I wanted to do. However, it turns out it was beneficial for my running! While going full vegan was brought on by ethical and environmental reasons, I am vegan for life because of the health benefits and the way I feel.”
Izzi has also competed at shorter distances, and has broken the South Australian records for 3000 metres and 5000 metres, and the national 10,000 metre title. Izzi has run one of the fastest Australian marathon times for all time. She’s an Olympian, and competitor at the World University Games and Commonwealth Games.
