National Masters Silver for vegan runner
After a year in which she won European and World Gold in duathlon as well as competing in road races, she saw success on the indoor track.

The event was the 2024 British Masters Championships and Lisa Gawthorne faced the nation’s best in the 3000 metres.
“I felt strong” Lisa told Great Vegan Athletes. “I pulled my back at Christmas moving furniture so I was worried I wouldn’t feel sharp but I felt good and just kept a strong rhythm going.”
It was enough to give her second and a Silver medal.
An added challenge was that the race was on a 200 metre track and there were 15 laps and “concentration is definitely needed” she says.
As the indoor season moves towards a close she hopes to shave a few more seconds off her time.
Vegan powered
Lisa has been vegan since aged 21 and vegetarian from age six, so she has been vegan for over two decades.
“I remember reading a leaflet that came through the door about farming and battery farming and even at that young age. Then I made the connection that meat was actually of animal origin and felt it was wrong to carry on eating any meat for that reason.”
She is now a director of a supplier of vegan confectionary.
