Meagan attempts title no. 4 at Canadian Nationals
2015 saw Canadian pairs skaters Meagan Duhamel and Eric Radford skate in the Canadian Nations for their fourth world title.
This follows an amazing 2014 that included the Canadian title, World Championship Bronze, Winter Olympic Silver and Grand Prix Gold – and Meagan was a finalist in Vegan Athlete of the Year.
The pressure was clearly on the pair as they were widely tipped to win following their performances at international level.
The short programme went well, and they established a clear lead when they were awarded 79.5 points, clear of a field led by a score of just over 65. The score was a Canadian record and the lead was a contrast to the tight margins they have experienced n previous competitions.
Their free skate was also excellent, scoring 150.69 compared to 122.7 for their nearest rival. This was also a Canadian record, as was the combined score.
It was noted that the amazing scores were despite a planned double toe-loop being adapted to a single. The performance, skating to Muse’s “We will be victorius” was commended by those who saw it, ending with Eric holding Meagan overhead for the final lift.
The pair are already looking forward to the World Championships and aiming for more impressive scores.
