Jake Shields’ profile
Mixed Martial Artist Jake Shields has been a profiled athlete on our site for some time and was shortlisted as one of the five finalists for Vegan Athlete of the Year 2013.

However, we’ve recently discovered that Jake eats a plant based diet, butdoes eat cheese. We appreciate that Jake – who was raised vegetarian by his parents – eats closer to vegan than a lot of his competitors, but we have to state that he is not vegan.
We will continue to watch Jake’s progress and wish him well in his sport, but as our site is just for people who eat 100% vegan, we’ll have to withdraw Jake’s profile from the site and his nomination for Vegan Athlete of the Year.
Great Vegan Athletes is run by volunteers working in their own time and we make every effort to determine the facts about our featured athletes. We have limited resources and while we’re pleased to be in direct contact with a number of our featured athletes, it is sometimes difficult to verify facts, which means we do occasionally make mistakes, and we apologise for this.
