It’s an International Gold!
Superskater Meagan Duhamel haswon her second title of the year and her first international Gold.
The Canadian vegan pairs skater felt things could have gone better at the Four Continents in Osaka, Japan. The '4C' features skaters from North America, Australasia, Africa and Asia, toparallel the European championships. The World Championships in March feature the best ofthe two competitions.
Both her and partner Eric Radford has imperfect landings on their side-by-side triple lutz and felt they could have done better than their score of 199.18.
"We know we are capable of skating much better” explained Meagan. “We want to show an improved long program at the world championships. We felt confident going in but once the music started it just became a struggle."
It was still enough to secure the international title, the first for either of the pair, who won silver last year. Expect more from the hardworking pair who have more competitions this year.
Fortunately Meagan was catered for excellently in Japan and told Great Vegan Athletes that there was a "great selection". "Every morning I had spinach, carrots and possibly the best sweet potatoes ever. I could have miso soup for lunch with some fried tofu and bread. Then for dinner I had rice and vegetables. It was perfect! But like usual, I brought lots of my own snacks as well. Homemade granola mix, Cliff bars, Dried fruit, etc. "
Already thinking about the World's, Meagan told us she is targetting a podium finish. "If we can perform like we have been all season this is very possible. The Worlds is being held in London, Ontario so it will be so nice to compete at home, in Canada."
Good luck Meagan!
