Former world champion boxer Jaime Clampitt-Hayes has taken a win in the Rhode Wars 3 boxing event.
The event pitted 46-year-old Jaime against Taynna Cardoso, a 34-year-old Brazillian. Jaime won by unanimous decision.
“I got the win” Jaime told great Vegan Athletes next morning. “I felt awesome. She was a very smart fighter but I was a lot stronger and controlled it from the start!”
Several years on from the age when many boxers retire, Jaime’s age did not seem to work against her.
“My work rate felt good, the last round I still had good energy and was able to go out and give it my all.”
Jaime was up early again on the following day, and planning to get back in the gym the day after.
Jaime has been vegan for ten years
“In 2012 I was studying health coaching at the Institute of Integrative Nutrition. We studied many different dietary theories and veganism was one of them. I was so interested in the health benefits in the beginning but as I studied, I learned more about how animals were suffering and mistreated. I became very passionate about it and knew that this was the life that I wanted to live.”
