Track win for vegan runner

Vegan runner and multiple national Champion Andreas Vojta made the best of January with a few weeks in Portugal.  The warmer weather saw him training 150 km per week in preparation for indoor 3000m races – and the Olympic qualification period for 5000 metres.

6 February 2020

As February started, Andreas took part in a 1500 m event in Vienna.

“It´s a bit short for me as a long distance runner already and I knew I was in a great general shape but didn´t expect that much for this distance” he told Great Vegan Athletes.

“In the end the race went very well, I felt good from the start and I was not only able to dictate the race from the 1000m mark to the finish to secure my win but also run a 3:40,38 for the 1500m. This meant the fastest personal time for the 1500m indoor since 2014 and at that point the 3rd fastest time in the world so far! Considering this is not my ‘main’ distance I was very happy with the result. “

With no time to celebrate Andreas will be competing over 3000 metres just days afterwards.  Thankfully he has a diet he completely believes in.

“One of the great things I feel for the last months is that my body is recovering really well now after nearly two years of plant based eating. I´m improving my diet step by step every day and had a really good food composition during my training camp thanks to everyday home cooking. I very rarely feel tired and the need to get some extra rest in. I hope this will be one of the points that will help to reach my big goal this year and qualify for the Olympic Games.”
