With four National wins behind them, vegan pairs skater and her partner Eric Radford entered the Canadian nationals as World Champions for the first time.
Seeking a fifth straight win the pair got off to a poor start by their usually high standards. Their short programme was marked with a few errors which left the pair disappointed and scoring less than was expected.
Meagan said the performance “wasn’t our best performance” and described it as “rough around the edges”. This meant the pressure was really on going into the second part, the long programme.
The pressure was added to by strong performances from the preceding teams. Thankfully Meagan and Eric used this to their advantage and put in a strong skate to record a total of 221.75 points. This was enough to win them their fifth gold, ahead of the second place pair on 211.40 and the bronze medallists on 204.22.
"That was hard," Meagan later reflected. "The teams before us skated really well and they put up big numbers, we had to do our job, we couldn't melt down, we couldn't have a performance like before, and we knew that getting into our starting position."
The run of medals continues and we will continue to watch Meagan’s progress and bring you the news.
