Course record for vegan runner!

Harvey Lewis added to his incredible recent form with a joint win and course record over 60 km.

12 April 2022

The US vegan found himself running with Irish ultrarunner David Ryan 5km into the Akamas Trail. The two led the race from then until they finished in 5:54:04.

“At 40 or 45k in I said we can either gun it out the final 10k or collaborate and finish together going for our best time” said Harvey. “We opted to push together.”

This was Harvey’s 86th ultra, and one of his most enjoyable. It was his first attempt at the course.

It was also the start of five races in six weeks ahead of big races including Badwater and Bigs Backyard Ultra.

Vegan

Harvey has been vegetarian since 1996 and vegan since 2016. While respect for animals is a motivator, Harvey also noted the other benefits when we spoke to him in 2021.

“Last year I got the course record on the 146 mile route at Badwater and two weeks later I ran the biggest 100 mile race at Ohio and I won that race. It shows you how quickly the body can recover.”
