Vegan strongwoman breaks world record and retains world title

She returned to the competition where she won her world title - with high hopes!

Angelina Berva was looking to add to her multiple honours including the recent title of Europe’s Strongest Woman. This saw her revisit the Static Monsters World Championships which combined two of her favourite events.

Strongman events are usually static or moving, and Angelina proved she could do either at the Official Strongman championships. This time she faced log lift and axle deadlift.

The 82 kg five-time French champion completed a 105 kg log, a full 10 kg clear of her nearest rival.

Next was the 18-inch axle deadlift. Unlike a powerlifting deadlift this has the bar higher from the floor, usually by using larger plates. It’s made harder by the thicker bar which is harder to grip.

Angelina dominated this. Her opening lift of 260 kg wasn’t matched in her category on any lift, and she finished on 301 kg, 51 kg ahead of rivals. This gave her a world record for her category and an overall total of 406kg, a win by 61 kg.

“The competition went very well” Angelina told us afterwards. “I was still a little tired from my European Championship. But I came to reclaim my Statics Monsters World Champion title and also attempt the deadlift world record, and I succeeded.”

Vegan

Now vegan for fourteen years, Angelina made the change at age 17

“I watched a lot of l214 videos on breeding and slaughter conditions and I told myself that I couldn’t support that and that we therefore had to boycott this system” she says. L214 is a French animal advocacy organisation.

Her rise to the top in strength events has seen her roll a car, yoke walk with one and cover all the classic strongman events. She brings an infectious enthusiasm to her sport and says: “nothing is impossible, you have to go get what you deserve.”
