Vegan Bodybuilder adds fourth Pro card
On their fifth wedding anniversary, Maddie and her husband took to the stage. Both left as winners.

Maddie McConnell added a fourth Pro card with a win in the Figure Category. She adds it to Pro Cards in Bodybuilding, Fit Body and Figure with the WNBF. The win came at the OCB Slayer in Arizona – and her husband also competed.
“I competed at the slayer with the intent of earning my Pro card so that I could qualify for the Yorton Cup on September 21st in North Carolina, and I was very stoked to make that happen!” Maddie told Great Vegan Athletes.
“I competed with my husband (also a vegan bodybuilder) and he won his class and then got 2nd in the overall. Prepping for competition with my husband and competing a long side him has been a really fun experience.”
By chance the Slayer marked their fifth wedding anniversary, making it a memorable weekend.
Vegan muscle
Maddie has been vegan since 2019. The process was triggered by meeting another vegan we feature.
“When I first met Zachary Belknap, he had been vegan for several years and he had muscle, lots of it actually. I was so intrigued! How could a bodybuilder be plant based? How did he get his protein? What made him pursue a vegan lifestyle?”
“When he explained his rational for going plant based, it sounded logical. I then began doing my own research.”
Maddie found that there were plenty of strong drivers to go vegan and she was eager to make the change.
“Animals are sentient beings with feelings and desires. They deserve love and respect just like you and I. Your pet is no different from a cow, pig, bird, fish etc. Animals do not wish to die, therefore killing animals is not humane.”
