Age record and another finish at World Toughest Footrace

Harvey Lewis has added to his incredible history with yet another finish at ‘The World’s Toughest Footrace’ – and an age group course record.

The race starts below sea level and finishes on a mountain after 135 miles.  It crosses Death Valley where record high temperatures are recorded and deserves the reputation as a race for only the toughest.

The vegan runner has finished every year for 15 years now, one of the longest streaks for the race.  He came in at 25 hours 55 minutes and 41 seconds, taking the course record for the 50-59 age group.  It was previously held by Charlie Engle – also a vegan runner.

Harvey has previously won the race twice and has broken the world record for the Backyard format twice.  He’s broken the record for most places on the US 24 hour team and has several course records at ultramarathons.

Vegan

Vegetarian for thirty years, Harvey has been vegan for the last ten.

He once told us:  “I think a lot in nature and I connect with the plants and animals and it makes me feel they have relevance as well. Knowing the ingredients you’re putting in your body and eating the incredible variety that exists in the plant world it’s so powerful, there’s just so many options. By diversifying you actually strengthen your longevity.”
